Potato grouper

In Japan, it is found on coral reefs from Wakayama Prefecture southwards, however, this species is scarce in Okinawa. It is a large grouper that will grow up to 1.2 meters in length. Its body is grey with large black spots. It is called the kasurihata in Japanese because of the body patterns. They often hide in caves and amongst coral reefs.
