Yellow boxfish
In Japan, distributed from Wakayama Prefecture southwards. Its body has an outer skeleton of fused bony plates. When stressed it releases poisonous mucus from its skin. Juveniles are yellow with black spots, and their cute appearance makes them a popular aquarium fish. Adults reach 40 cm in length. The fish in the image is a juvenile.
