Sponges

Sponges are animals that belong to the phylum Porifera. Some are shaped like a vase or branch and can attach themselves to other objects or cover an area. Their body structure varies including soft, hard and elastic forms. There are many holes covering their surface. Through these pores sponges take in sea water and process the organic matter to use as nutrients within their body.
