Specimens have been found in the Philippines and in Japan. In Japan, they have been collected only in Okinawa and Kume Island. The patterns on the side of its carapace differ between individuals, and are hardly seen on some. On occasions, they have been collected from the seawater intake pipes of this aquarium.
