Pharaoh cuttlefish

A large cuttlefish species that grows up to 5 kg in weight. Its Japanese name is derived from its tiger-like stripes that form on its dorsal mantle, head and tentacles. They are distributed across the Indo-Pacific to depths of 120 meters. In Okinawa, this species is consumed as food along with the broadclub cuttlefish and bigfin reef squids.
