It is a smaller species of sea snail in the family Pleurotomariidae. The base of the shell is flat and its sides are straight. It can be distinguished from the Salmiana slit shell (Mikadotrochus salmianus) by the pattern on the upper end of the shell, and by the color of the mollusk.
