This species of shrimp belongs to the Pandalidae family, and when threatened it spews out blueish white luminescent liquid. Its Japanese name Akamonminoebi comes from the large red spot on the side of its abdomen. They are collected from a depth of around 500m with baskets. It is relatively small species of pandalid shrimp.
