In Okinawa, this species of slopefish is found in reef areas at depths from 200 to 300 meters. The distinct features of this fish are its pink body with yellow parts to the lower lobe of the tail fin and gill covers. It is a rare fish and not many are caught. It is susceptible to decompression. The individual on display has   gone through a depressurization treatment and was displayed for the first time at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium in 2018. Through observations with a remotely operated vehicle, it usually swims in a school of around 20 fish.
