In Japan, this species of tropical sea star has been found at depths from 10 to 30 meters from Kushimoto and Susami in Wakayama Prefecture to Amakusa Island, Amami Island and Okinawa. It was found using a remotely operated vehicle at a depth of around 90 meters (water temperature 22.3℃) off of the main island of Okinawa. Its disk is a deep red and has red mesh patterns on its arms. It is a small but extremely beautiful sea star.
