Okinawan tilefish
- World's First
- Rare species
- Rareness:★★★★★
Only five species of tilefishes have been found in Japanese waters. In 2012, the Okinawan tilefish was described as a new species. It is endemic to the Ryukyu Islands and found at depths from 100 to 200 meters. Usually tilefishes dig burrows in the seabed, however as the Okinawan tilefish has had little observation, its ecology is mostly unknown.
