The saddle carpetshark is a small carpet shark which is the same order as whale sharks and tawny nurse sharks. The pattern on its back looks like a horse’s saddle. A pair of barbels are under the throat. It does not swim often, but spends most of its time lying still with the the tips of its barbels touching the seabed. This individual was caught off of Okinawa at a depth of 400 meters.
