Goblin sharks inhabit the deep sea at depths from 300 to 1000 meters. It is called the goblin shark because of its scary appearance with its protruding jaw and exposed teeth. This 2.2-meter male specimen was caught by longline fishing off the coast of Yaizu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 2016. This species can extend its jaw at a record-breaking speed of 3.14 m/s to catch its prey.
