Snake sea cucumber
Distributed across the Indo-Pacific. In Japan, around Amami Island, the Ryukyu Islands, and the Ogasawara Islands. Its body is thin, just a few centimeters thick. They can reach over 2 meters in length. Its whole body is covered in speckled bands of white and black, and is often mistaken as a sea snake.
The surface of the body is soft, but there are many microscopic anchor-shaped spicules that support the body wall. These spicules are adhesive and stick if you touch them. Many inhabit areas of seagrass on sandy bottoms.
