Bowl coral　／　Helmet coral

In Japan, found in small numbers on coral reef areas from Okinawa southwards. Prefers the muddy or sandy areas at the base of coral slopes. A colony is helmet-shaped and can reach 50cm in diameter. It is a colonial coral that does not attach itself to the bedrock.
