Thin birdsnest coral
Distributed across the Indo-Pacific. In Japan, from Amami Islands and the Okinawa Islands. Mostly found in calm waters. Its characteristic features are that the tips of its branches are thin and pointy, and its polyps are typically lined in neat rows. A colony takes on a hemispherical shape and are often beautiful colors including yellowish brown, yellow, and pink. Often coral-inhabiting crabs create pits and live on the tip of its branches. This particular coral is uncommon since the coral bleaching in 1998.
