Yellow scroll coral
Widely distributed in the central and western Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean. In Japan, from Kochi Prefecture southwards in dim areas on reef slopes, under overhangs, but not in large numbers. Its colony is sessile and has a leaf-like appearance. Polyps are lined on the upper side of the “leaves”, and often extend tentacles during the afternoon. It is yellow or yellowish-brown. A large colony can grow to over 50cm across.
