Painted sweetlips

Distributed across the Indo-Pacific including southern Japan. A species of grunt (Haemulidae). Reaches 60 cm in length. Species of sweetlips are usually seen in coral reef areas. Adults have a shiny gray body with scattered orange speckles. Juveniles have black and yellow stripes and are described by locals as tasting terrible. Adult fish are very delicious and are prepared for sashimi or cooked.
