Black-blotched porcupinefish
A large species of porcupinefish (family Diodontidae).
When fully grown its body reaches 50cm in length. Sharp and mobile spines cover their whole body. When threatened, they suck in a large amount of water into their stomach to inflate their body, and erect their spines. Their flesh is nontoxic and is eaten in Okinawa in a soup called the Abasa-jiru.
