Dusky parrotfish

Distributed across the Indo-Pacific except Hawaii. In Japan, found in the Ryukyu Islands. They often form small schools near corals on reef slopes. Juveniles are black with beautiful, small, white and blue, polka dots. This species of parrotfish is rare in the Pacific including Japan. The body color of males and females are not much different from each other. They feed by biting off algae along with rocks from the bedrock. This makes it hard to care for them in aquarium where seaweeds do not grow.
