Messmate pipefish

In Japan, distributed from Wakayama Prefecture southwards. Commonly found in shallow waters of coral reefs. It reaches 18 cm in length. It moves on the sea floor like it is dragging itself. Males carry and protect their eggs in a brood pouch on its ventral surface until the eggs hatch.
