African pompano
Distributed in tropical regions including the Indian Ocean, the Pacific Ocean and southern Japan. The soft rays of the second dorsal fin and anal fin of young fish are long and filamentous. It is named itohikiaji in Japanese because of these string-like filaments. In an aquarium, they are sometimes harassed by other fish and die. As they grow their filamentous fins become shorter. Its small scales are embedded in the skin making it smooth with a beautiful silver shine. It reaches 60 cm in length. They are often caught in fixed nets. There is not much meat on its body due to being flat, but their white flesh has a refined taste.
