Spangled emperor

In Japan, distributed in the temperate and tropical waters south of Kanto including Okinawa. They inhabit shallow waters slightly off shore at depths to 10 meters. Reaches 90 cm in length. This species is a scavenger and primarily feeds on benthic creatures such as small fish, shells, crabs and sea urchins. It is a popular catch for fishermen. They are well known in Okinawa and large fish are prepared as sashimi while smaller fish are fried with butter.
