Coral hawkfish
Distributed in tropical zones of the Indo-Pacific and the eastern Pacific Ocean. In Japan it is found around the Ryukyu Islands and the Ogasawara Islands. It is often discovered near soft corals in areas with a strong tidal flow. It looks similar to the spotted hawkfish (Cirrhitichthys aprinus) but the coral hawkfish can be distinguished by the red patterns on its tail fin.
