Distributed across the Indo-Pacific, including southern parts of Japan. It is a species of the subfamily Anthiadinae. The largest individuals only reach 10cm in length. Harems are made out of a few large males and many smaller females. When one male disappears, the largest female will change sex to take the place of the missing male.
