Blue-barred parrotfish

In Japan, found in coral reef areas from the Kii Peninsula southwards. Males have turquoise scales on a pinkish body. Females and juveniles are yellow with light blue bands. They are considered to be the most delicious amongst the parrotfish, and have the Okinawan name “A-gai”. They mainly feed on small algae.
