Distributed in the central and western Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean. In Japan, from Amami Oshima southwards. It is a particularly colorful species of angelfish, and has sharp teeth. They are omnivorous, mainly feeding on sponges, sea squirts, and algae on corals and rocks.
