Coral Reef World
Long-spined urchin
- Rareness:★★★★★

Distributed in the Indo-Pacific. In Japan, from the Boso Peninsula southwards. Inhabits coral reefs and shallow rocky shores. It is a large sea urchin with a diameter of 5 to 9 cm, and spines reaching 30 cm. Its venomous spines are fragile. After the spines enter the skin, they brake easily, and remain in the body. Care should be taken as pain from the venom lasts a long time.
