  • Rareness:★★★★★

Distributed across the Indo-Pacific. Lives in estuaries, inner bays, and can also live in freshwater. It is one of the most common fish in mangroves. Its Japanese name (himetsubameuo) is named after the tiera batfish (Tsubameuo) due to their similar appearance, but biologically they are not close. They are popular as an aquarium fish as caring for them in captivity is easy because they can be kept in freshwater or seawater.
