This large sea snail inhabits the tidal zone to depth of 20 meters, off of the Kii Peninsula and southwards. Its shell grows to 11cm in length and a diameter of 7cm. Its shell is white with black circular spots and a glossy surface. It is named hoshidakara in Japanese due to the spots on the surface of the shell resembling stars.
