Distributed in tropical waters around the world. It is one of the most dangerous species of shark. Reaching 3.4 meters in length, they are overall stocky with a round snout. This species will often attack other fish in the same tank. They have the ability to adapt to freshwater and can swim upstream in large rivers. They are very cautious, and not easily caught by longline shark fishing. They inhabit the coast, and at times get trapped in fixed nets. Churaumi Aquarium has looked after the same bull shark since 1978, this is a record for the species. During that time the shark has matured, and successfully given birth to pups in the aquarium.

Scientific name Carcharhinus leucas
English name Bull shark
