Distributed in warm waters around the world except the eastern Pacific and the north-eastern Atlantic Ocean. It is not a cartilaginous shark, but a bony fish. It has a modified dorsal fin on the top of its head that acts like a sucker and attaches to larger fish and turtles. It reaches 1 meter in length. It is the largest species of remora. Live sharksuckers are often seen attached to the whale sharks in the aquarium and it can look as though the whale sharks are swimming with a pup.
