Distributed in the Indo-Pacific including the Ryukyu Islands. Its split tail fin has a black line on both parts, and along the side of its body it has a distinctive horizontal golden band. The dark-banded fusilier of the same family looks similar to this species, but the blue and gold fusilier is taller in height, flatter, and longer reaching 35 cm in length. It forms schools in coral reefs and migrates. They are popular for fishing during summer and are delicious.
