Distributed near coastal areas of temperate and tropical zones. In Japan found south of central Honshu. As the name describes, it is gold in color. Individuals, especially those around 5 to 10 cm which are bright gold with black stripes, are indeed beautiful. Juveniles are popular as aquarium fish. Once they become adults, at around 50 cm in length, their golden color fades.
In the aquarium, there are times where you can observe small individuals swimming along just in front of the tip of the snout of a whale shark.
