The Sea of Tropical Fish
Tripletail / Pacific tripletail
- Rareness:★★★★★

Juvenile fish float on the surface imitating a branch or a withered leaf. They prefer feeding on shrimps, crabs and squids. Adult fish are not often caught in Japan. Juveniles, only a few centimeters long, are washed ashore or caught on a withered leaf or branch near the end of summer. It is called the tripletail because the soft rays of its dorsal fin and anal fin are so long they stretch back to the tail fin. It therefore appears to have three tail fins.
