The lunar fusilier is a member of the family Caesionidae, and in Japan is distributed in subtropical and tropical regions south of the Ryukyu Islands. Its body is a distinctly vivid blue-green and the tip of its tail fins are black. It inhabits rocky zones and coral reefs in coastal areas.
