The new nickname for the baby false killer whale is Sun!

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium asked the public to suggest a nickname for the baby false killer whale that turned 2 years old on May 23rd ,2019.
There were 3880 entries in a moth.
After considering all the entries, we chose the nickname Sun!
In September there will be a section that introduces the new nickname during the Okichan dolphin show.

○He is the son of “Tida※2”
※1 Achisansan in the Okinawan language means “hot”, ※2Tida means “Sun” and is his father’s name.

≪Profile of the baby false killer whale≫
- The father of the false killer whale is called Tida, and the mother of the false killer whale is called Momo.
- They both reached sexual maturity in this facility. The baby false killer whale is Momo’s and Tida’s first baby.
- The baby’s approximate weight and length at birth was 160cm and 50kg, but by August 14th ,2019,
- he had grown to be 307cm in length and weighed 330kg (Adults grow to 5 to 6 meters).
- Currently the baby false killer whale eats up to 10 kg of fish such as shishamo and mackerel daily.
- Sun is the 9th false killer whale to be born in captivity in the world,
- and the second false killer whale to have survived over a year.※3
  ※3 The first false killer whale to survive over a year was born in this facility in the year 2000 and lived here for 7 years.
