There are unusual creatures displayed in the deep-sea section of the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. The sea star Trichaster flagelifer and types of Ciona sea squirts are now being exhibited for the first time at Churaumi Aquarium.
There are many other deep-sea creatures exhibited that can only be seen at this aquarium in Japan, such as the slender-stalked soft coral also known as the phantom coral.
The exhibited animals were caught at a depth of 200 meters off of Okinawa Island, by a ROV (a small remotely operated vehicle) owned by the Okinawa Churashima Foundation which manages and operates Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.
These creatures usually do not move much, which makes them easy to observe. Discover these amazing creatures by observing their mysterious and unusual shapes and behaviors that are rarely seen.
