Manatee Pool

Due to the presence of the newborn and to protect the health of the animals, the manatee feeding program is currently on hold.

The model for fanciful mermaids

The Manatee Pool displays the West Indian Manatee, after which it is said that fanciful mermaids were fashioned. The manatee is a herbivorous mammal, the adults of which grow to between three and four-and-a-half meters in length and weigh between 300 and 1,000 kilograms. They are currently in danger of extinction and are designated as a threatened species. Most of our manatees were born in Mexico and gifted by the Mexican government, although a female, Yuma, was born here in 2001. On the first floor of this facility, you can see manatees from above the water as well as enjoy observing manatees underwater from the observation room in the basement. In addition, a film featuring Yuma’s birth is shown.

  • Visitors are admitted free of charge to the Manatee Pool.
  • If you wish to re-enter the aquarium on the same day, please show your admission ticket at the entrance or exit. (Re-entry is possible on the same day)

Note

  • Admission restrictions may be applied depending on the situation.
  • To reduce stress on the mother and calf, viewing will take place from the basement.
  • Manatees are sensitive to sound and light, therefore we kindly ask for visitors to remain quiet while viewing the mother and calf.
We ask for visitors not to use any flash when taking photos.
