Up close with the ocean’s greatest predator! Preserved great white shark on display!!

From December 6th 2019, a preserved adult great white shark is on display at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium’s Churaumi Plaza (Main Rest House).

The displayed great white shark is a male adult (3.2 meters in length) and its whole body has been fluid-preserved making this display extremely valuable for education.
The great white shark was found dead after it had been accidentally caught on a fishing line off the coast of Motobu Village in August 2014. It was given to and then preserved by the Okinawa Churashima Foundation. In the summer of 2016, this specimen was exhibited for the first time at the National Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo and over 330,000 visitors saw the great white shark as the main attraction of the special exhibition Hunters of the Ocean.
The fluid-preserved great white shark on display at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is the only one of its kind in Japan. It is spectacular to see up close.
