The Life in the Seagrass Beds exhibit is now on display (Previously: Life in the Mangroves)

From December 4th 2020, the Life in the Mangrove exhibit in the Coral Reef Gallery has been renewed as a Life in the Seagrass Beds exhibit.

※” The Coral Reef Gallery displays and introduces various creatures that live in coral reefs in 30 large and small tanks.

The new exhibit is a re-creation of a seagrass bed on a stretch of sand off of Okinawa’s coast. The tank is 4.5 meters wide, and holds 36 tons of water. Seagrass beds are different to seaweed beds which are made up of kelp and wakame. Seagrass beds are made up mainly of marine plants that produce flowers and seeds. Areas with a dense growth of seagrasses such as sickle seagrass are important spawning grounds for fish and a habitats for their larvae and juvenile fish.

Seagrass beds are like cradles for newborn ocean life. Discover the creatures living among the seagrasses.
