See three species of baby turtles that hatched at the aquarium
Three species of sea turtle successfully hatched at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium: loggerhead sea turtles, green sea turtles and hawksbill sea turtles. We are happy to announce that you can now view the baby turtles.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is the only place that is successfully breeding three species of turtles at the same time. The baby turtles are reared in the Sea Turtle Rearing Pool next to the Sea Turtle Pool. We hope you visit and see the tiny turtles at their cutest.
A loggerhead turtle born in 2003 is the father of the baby loggerhead turtles born this year. It is extremely difficult to know when sexual maturation takes place in male sea turtles. The most effective way is by captive rearing. Our studies enabled us to discover that this male loggerhead sea turtle reached sextual maturity at 18 years old.
Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium shares the knowledge it gains through research. We hope to contribute to shed light on the breeding ecology of sea turtles and aid in their conservation through our breeding programs.
