Can I enter the Aquarium with my pet?

We are sorry to disappoint you but pets are strictly prohibited inside the building (except guide dogs, service dogs and hearing assistance dogs). Also, there are no facilities for keeping your pet at the Ocean Expo Park, including the Aquarium. Thank you for your understanding.

Is there an infant toilet seat?

Some restrooms in the aquarium have infant toilet seats available. 
 

Can I preview the facility for a school trip in advance?

Please call us for more information. The application must be completed in advance and submitted by fax.

If the school group rate is applied, is the accompanying teacher free of charge?

Is there a time limit for viewing the aquarium?

There is no time limit for viewing the aquarium, and reentry is possible on the same day. Please take your time and enjoy.

Is there a place inside the aquarium where a large group photo can be taken?

There is no space for large group photos inside the aquarium. Please use a spacious area outside for group photos.

Is there a vending machine for drinks inside the aquarium?

No. Food and drinks are not allowed inside the aquarium, therefore, vending machines are not installed.

Are dolphin shows ever canceled?

Yes, depending on bad weather, typhoons or the health of the dolphins, some parts of the show can change or be canceled.

Can I livestream?

Please refrain from livestreaming.

 Can I post my photos on social media?

Posting for personal enjoyment is allowed, but please refrain from posting for commercial or for-profit purposes. Please refrain from disclosing information that may infringe the privacy of other customers or employees.

What should I do if I start feeling sick or I am injured.

Please inform our staff immediately.

Are AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) installed?

Yes. An AED is installed in three places, in the aquarium’s first-aid station on the
3rd floor / across the main tank of the Kuroshio Sea tank on the 1st floor / in the elevator hall of the aquarium’s 1st floor.

Is an umbrella necessary on a rainy day from the parking lot to the aquarium?

Yes, please bring an umbrella as you will be using an uncovered pathway.

Is there a place I can heat up baby food.

No. We do not have a designated place for heating food.

Is there a nursing room where I can prepare formula milk?

Yes. There are three nursing rooms with a purified hot water server for milk formula located at the Aquarium Entrance (3rd floor) /across from Okinawa Churaumi Theater (2nd floor) / and in Churaumi Plaza.

Is an umbrella available for rent?

No. Umbrellas are not available for rent.

Do you sell medicine.

No. Medicine is not sold in our facilities.

If a ticket was purchased from a flea market or auction, but entry to the aquarium was denied, can the ticket be refunded or be reissued?

No. Resale of entry tickets is prohibited under Japanese anti-scalping law. We are not responsible for any problems regarding tickets purchased through resale.

Can I change the name on my annual passport, transfer it, or lend it to another person?

The annual passport is only valid for the person named on the passport.
Changing names, transfer and lending your annual passport to another person is not allowed.

What do I do if I lost my annual passport?

If your annual passport is valid (before the expiration date), we can reissue your annual passport for a small fee (¥300). Please inquire at the annual passport counter.

What do I do if I forgot to bring my annual passport?

If your annual passport is valid (before the expiration date), we can issue a temporary annual passport free of charge. Please inquire at the annual passport counter.

Can a service dog such as guide dog accompany me.

Yes. Assistance dogs such as guide dogs and hearing dogs may accompany you. However, pets are not allowed in the aquarium.

Can I use a tripod?

No. Tripods are not allowed inside the aquarium.

What kind of events are available.

Events are announced on the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium website in the notifications section as soon as they are decided.

Can I purchase the annual passport as a gift?

Yes, you can purchase an annual passport as a gift. You can purchase an annual passport exchange voucher. You can make an inquiry for the annual passport by phone or at the counter.

Is it possible to conduct a wedding here?

Please make a booking through the Okinawa Resort Wedding Association’s Official Website and not directly with Ocean Expo Park or Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.

 Is there a public phone inside the aquarium?

No. There is no public phone available in the aquarium.

Is an ATM available?

No. There is no ATM inside Ocean Expo Park.

Is there a place where I can park my bike / bicycle?

Yes. Please use the bike/bicycle parking space at P5.

Is there a designated smoking area within the facility?

No. There are no designated areas for smoking within this facility.
Please use the smoking area at Churaumi Plaza.

Can an announcement be made to call for someone within the facility?

Yes, you can make a request at the information counter near the entrance or the exit.

Is there a public wireless LAN service (Wi-Fi) available?

Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available. Each session is a maximum of 30 minutes, and sessions are unlimited.  This service is available in English, Chinese and Korean, and many people can connect to the internet at the same time.

Is there a discount for Okinawan residents or seniors?

No. We do not have any discounted rates for Okinawan residents or seniors.

Where can I purchase tickets?

You can purchase tickets at the aquarium ticket booths or from the website (Asoview). However, group rate tickets and annual passports are only available at the aquarium ticket booths.

Do I need to pay for parking?

No. All nine parking lots for Ocean Expo Park are free.

Do we need to make a reservation in the case of a group (more than 20 people)?

Is it possible to take commercial photographs in the Aquarium?

Am I able to re-enter the Aquarium?

Re-entry is possible on the same day.
If you wish to re-enter the aquarium on the same day, please show your admission ticket.

How long does it take to go through the Aquarium?

It depends on the programs you visit in the Aquarium. However, it generally takes about an hour and a half to two hours. There are also facilities where you can observe dolphins, sea turtles and manatees for free nearby the Aquarium. Also available is a tour plan which can accommodate your time schedule and preference.

 

How far is it from the entrance to the exit of the Aquarium?

It is about 500 meters when you follow the tour course. After entering on the 4F, you walk through 3F, 2F and 1F. All passageways in the Aquarium are equipped with ramps so that you are able to move around without using the stairs.

 

Is photography allowed inside the aquarium?

Personal photography is allowed as long as you do not hinder other customers or take up a lot of space with large camera equipment.
Using camera flash is allowed in most areas but is restricted at some tanks as indicated by signs.
Please do not use continuous lighting systems such as video lights.

For commercial photography for magazines and television productions, please contact Ocean Expo Park Management Center (TEL: 0980-48-3748) to request a permit in advance.

The effects using flash can have on creatures in the aquarium

Bright lights may disturb creatures in the tank. However, light from a camera flash is reflected by the acrylic tank wall, or reduced as it passes through water, therefore flash photography is allowed in this facility except for specific no-flash areas (such as the Ocean Planetarium).

Is pressure applied to the tanks in the Deep Sea?

No, the exhibition tanks in Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium are not pressurized. Many of the deep-sea fish in the exhibit tanks are collected by fishing and trapping in Okinawa's deep sea. By pressurizing the water in the pressurized Aquarium tanks in the backyard and then gradually depressurizing it after the fish have been introduced into the Aquarium enables the fish to breed even under low-pressure conditions. In other words, the marine life seen in the Deep Sea are all extremely rare fish that have been brought into the exhibit through such careful means as described above.

 

How many marine life do you have in the aquarium?

We keep approximately 710 species, 12,000 individual marine life in Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.
Our aquarium re-creates the sea around Okinawa and most marine life is indigenous to Okinawa.

How big is the largest whale shark?

The largest whale shark, Jinta, is approximately 8.8 m in length and weighs 6 tons (as of January 1, 2023).

How much food does a whale shark eat a day?

The largest whale shark, Jinta, eats approximately 30 kg a day. He eats small shrimp such as krill.

Don't small fish get eaten by big fish in the tank?

In a natural marine environment, yes, the big fish eat the small fish.
However, big fish rarely attack smaller fish in the tank, perhaps because they have been kept together in the same tank for so long time and have become used to each other. Also, we try to be careful to give the fish enough food to eat.

I heard there is a crab that walks forward. Is that true?

Yes, the crab that walks forward is called the asahi crab (spanner crab), which is found in the Coral Sea.

 

What are the directions from Naha Airport?

There are several ways to access Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium from Naha Airport; by car (rental car included), highway bus, route bus, and taxi. It takes approximately two hours by car, and about three hours by highway bus. Please see below for more details about general access.

How do I get to the Aquarium by car? Are there road signs that point the way to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium?

If you have car navigation, search for "Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium," "Ocean Expo Commemorative Park," or "Ocean Expo Park."
The car navigation MAPCODE is 553075797. Enter 0980-48-2741to search by telephone number.
Follow the road signs that say "Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium" or "Ocean Expo Park."

 

Where is the nearest parking?

Use the parking at Ocean Expo Park. All parking areas are free. North Parking Area (multilevel parking lot P7) or North Gate Front Parking Area (P6) are most convenient. There is a sign that says "Aquarium Parking" at the entrance of North Parking Area (multilevel parking lot P7). When using other parking areas, you can walk or use an tour car that operates at the Park to go to the Aquarium.

 

Do the parking fill up?

You can find a parking without any trouble, except on those days when major events such as the firework festival in summer are held. All together there are 8 parking areas available. When you see a sign indicating that a parking area is full, please check the other parking areas. Also, do not hesitate to make inquiries to our parking attendants on the day, who will help you find an available parking.

 

Where can I find parking spaces for the disabled?

There are six parking lots Installed parking spaces for the disabled inside Ocean Expo Park. All parking spaces are free.

Are rentals available for baby strollers and wheelchairs?

Yes, we provide free rentals at each entrance gate and each facility information desk.(But Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is excluded)Please ask our staff. However, we do not accept reservations in advance. We appreciate your understanding.

Do you accept credit cards?

Are coin lockers available?

Yes, there are coin lockers on the left-hand side just after you enter the Aquarium (Coral Lobby). Extra Large (500 yen) and  Large size (300 yen) and small size (100 yen) coin lockers are available.

Are restrooms with nursing room and diaper-changing table available at the Aquarium?

There are two nursing rooms located on the third floor entrance and the second floor in front of the Churaumi Theater in the aquarium. Restrooms (for men and women) at the aquarium are equipped with tables for changing baby diapers.(Please note that not all restrooms at the aquarium are equipped with changing tables.) Paper diapers can be purchased at the aquarium’s Blue Manta shop.The only size available is L.

What should I do when I've lost personal belongings?

Please contact Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (TEL 0980-48-3748) or Ocean Expo Park Management Center Park Services (TEL 0980-48-2741).

Can I talk to the aquarium staff?

Yes, you can. Please don't hesitate to ask the staff any questions. You will recognize them in a blue uniform(polo shirt) walking around inside aquarium.

In case my child gets lost, what should I do?

Please approach any staff member in the Aquarium. Or, if you go to the information desk at the entrance or the information desk at exit. you will find the staff in attendance at all times. If you are in a hurry, please feel free to call Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (TEL: 0980-48-3748).

What other facilities besides the Aquarium are located in the Park?

We have a variety of facilities such as the Tropical Dream Center, where you can enjoy tropical and subtropical flowers and fruit trees, the Oceanic Culture Museum, where you can learn about the history of the relationship between the sea and people, Okichan Theater, Manatee Pool, Sea Turtle Pool, Dolphin Lagoon, Emerald Beach and others. How can I get around at the Aquarium?

You can get around on foot, but there are a few passageways that have bumps. A tour car is also available at Ocean Expo Park. (one-day ticket is 500 yen; a single-ride ticket is 300 yen

Is the Aquarium enjoyable on rainy days as well?

Yes, the aquarium is just as enjoyable on rainy days. Tropical Dream Center, Oceanic Culture Museum, Okichan Theater, Manatee Pool, and Sea Turtle Pool are all inside buildings covered with a roof. Okichan Theater is covered with roof. Dolphin Lagoon is partially covered with a roof.

※Okichan Theater was closed for facility repairs from September 1st,2023.The dolphin show is holding at Dolphin lagoon.

Are there restaurants in the Aquarium?

We have a restaurant and a cafe at Aquarium: Restaurant Inoh which is located on the 4F of the Aquarium, and Cafe Ocean Blue which is located inside the Aquarium. There are also several cafes and snack shops in the Park.

Can we bring foods or drinks inside the Aquarium?

We are sorry to disappoint you but no food or drinks is allowed inside the Aquarium.
At Ocean Expo Park has a place to eat food or drinks which you bring; If you would like a place with a roof near the aquarium, Main Rest House (Churaumi Plaza) and Event Hall is recommended to have bringing foods.

Can we buy souvenirs without admission to the aquarium?

Yes, souvenirs can be purchased at Shop Blue Manta .

Are there facilities where I can buy diapers and batteries?

Yes, we sell them at Shop Blue Manta. Please ask the clerk.

Are there other barrier free sites in the Park besides the Aquarium that I can enjoy?

All the facilities in the Park are barrier free equipped so that every visitor can enjoy their time here. Sites especially equipped for wheelchairs are found at Okichan Theater. Please check Ocean Expo Park Official Site for more information about park facilities.

※Okichan Theater was closed for facility repairs from September 1st,2023.The dolphin show is holding at Dolphin lagoon.

Can we enjoy Okichan Theater and Dolphin Lagoon on rainy days?

Yes, you can enjoy them on rainy days. Okichan Theater has a roof and Dolphin Lagoon is partially covered with a roof. However, the show may be cancelled due to bad weather or the poor health of the animals. Please check the day's event beforehand.

Do you have barrier-free services?

Yes, we provide a free rental service for electric wheelchairs(10) at the Information desk located in the Aquarium entrance.
Main access ways at each facility can be used by wheelchairs (including transportation by elevators between 1F and 3/4F). Our restaurant "Inoh" is equipped with specially-designed tables, allowing most wheelchairs to fit level with the tables. Holders of disability or nursing certifications should present your certification at the ticket counter to receive admission exemption.

Is it possible to make inquiries by e-mail?

Can I have more details about open hours and admission at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium?

Open Hours at Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium are from 8:30 to 18:30 during the normal period . However, hours are extended from 8:30 to 20:00 during the peak season. Please see "Open Hours & Admission" for more details.

What are you doing to work on environmental issues?

At Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and Sea Turtle Pool, we are engaged in awareness-raising activities against littering, by introducing, for example, the issue of dolphins and turtles dying from mistakenly swallowing garbage found at sea. Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium is currently implementing awareness-raising enterprises far and wide through research study projects connected to the park.
