A Baby Bottlenose Dolphin is born! Visitors Can Now Observe the Baby Swimming with its Mother

We are pleased to announce that a baby bottlenose dolphin was born on July 9th 2026, at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium.

In October 2025, we confirmed that our bottlenose dolphin Maru was pregnant. After taking blood tests and ultrasounds, and after continued monitoring of the mother’s condition, the baby was safely born on July 9th, 2026, at 21:22.
The mother dolphin, Maru, previously gave birth to Haimu in 2022. This was her second birth.

One month has passed, and because the mother and calf are stable, public viewing became possible from Monday, August 10th. Visitors can observe them from the underwater viewing window in the pool wall of the Okichan Theater at the back of the pool.
※Please note that, depending on the conditions of the mother and calf, viewing hours and viewing methods may sometimes change.

We will share the progress of this baby dolphin on the Ocean Expo Park and Churaumi Aquarium’s official YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.

Bottlenose Dolphin
Widely distributed in warm waters worldwide, many aquariums rear these dolphins. Japanese aquariums cooperate for the conservation and breeding of this species.

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium will document and study the knowledge gained through breeding. While continuing to contribute to academic research for dolphin husbandry and conservation, we will follow rearing management methods that emphasize the mother and calf’s well-being.
